About the event

Join author and witch Melissa Jayne Madara for an exciting introduction to Hekate, the Ancient Greek goddess of witchcraft and the realms of the dead.

This lecture explores the figure of Hekate from the perspective of her chthonic aspect,  focusing on the goddess' appearances in funerary rites, death iconography, and necromantic rituals throughout occult history. Students will peer into the goddess' underworld aspects, guided by her ancient epithet hersechthonia, meaning "she who speaks from below." Together, we will explore her unique role in the cosmology of Ancient Greek paganism, and the characteristics that mark Hekate as the goddess of the crossroads between the world of the living and the world of the dead.

Join us for a look into the spells, enchantments, and stories of this oft-misunderstood figure, and examine the origins of Hekate's mythological role as nightmare queen of ghosts and witches.
