About the event

Hydrosols, essential oils, tinctures, incense, and spagyrics- all useful tools for the herbalist, perfumer, and witch. While these practices may seem mutually exclusive, history shows us a snaking trail that winds these disciplines together, revealing powerful practices of herbcraft and arte which braid them all together. By evoking the sense of smell, the "most spiritual of the senses" since the ancient world, perfume magic and scentcraft become useful mediums for witches and botanical crafters alike. While the preparation of these applications can seem daunting, they unlock the door to exploring the truly refned essences of plants and fowers, expressing and weilding the very "soul" of these plants.

In this lecture, students will encounter these preparations with detailed explanations of procedure, chemistry, and craft, accompanied by a look at the intersection of perfume, incense, and magic in history. We will be exploring a variety of fragrance-capturing processes, as well as step-by-step methods for creating your own hand-blended perfumes at home. This lecture will cover :

+ History of perfume magic

+ Detailed look at the favored perfumes of magic and religion

+ Magical incenses and oils of the ancient world

+ Examination of extraction methods, including distillation, tinctures, and enfleurage

+ Overview of scent extractions in alchemy & spagyrics

+ Notes on blending your own perfume and incense, as well as a few of my personal recipes to get you started!

This event will be recorded for all ticketholders. If you miss our live class, recordings will be sent along afterward.
